Oops!

So… i forgot to keep up with my blog over the course of the last few weeks. because the last few weeks were full of working and getting everything together for the final project i will try to explain everything i did. after deciding wht we were going to map out and who was working with us we got to work. the only maps i was in charge of prodkucing for the poster were the mental maps. with the mental maps i wanted to show the progression of spatial understanding of campus and the delaware downtown throughout the four years in college. finding the data i wanted to show was not as easy as i thought it was going to be. some of the freshman maps were highly detailed, and some of the senior maps were not detailed enough. because of this i decided to choose people i knew would give me the results i wanted to present.

along with the mental maps i was in charge of the overall layout of the poster. having some experience with photoshop helped with this task greatly. with experimentation, trial, and error i created a background that was pleasing to my eyes. once all the maps were sent to me i needed to create a poster that was pleasing to everyone else’s eyes. with a lot of messing around in photoshop i put together the map we have now.

ArcGIS ch 18

a. didn’t really show anything special.

b. couldn’t get the hurricanes to show up and was forced to stop.

c. the right click options would not show properties for the hurricanes. i worded as far up as i could. drawing the curving line was very fun!

ArcGIS ch 17

i had a lot of problems with exercise 17. when i tried to add a new folder to get the address information it wouldn’t let me. i am sure i was doing something wrong but i could not figure out what. will ask questions.

ArcGIS ch 16

this chapter shows how to manipulate different parcels. this is something that i think could be very useful with outdated data.

ArcGIS ch 15

a. in this exercise the only thing shown was how to use the sketch tool to make a water line.

b. basically showed how to highlight certain areas using the sketch tool and how to make them purrty and purrfect.

ArcGIS ch 14

asfasgasf

ArcGIS ch 13

a. made a choropleth map showing population change in the united states.

b. how to alter spatial data if it happens to be messed up

ArcGIS ch 12

in 12 a. using a buffer was explained

b. showed how to label different things with a buffer and how to add more data to a buffer.

c. showed how to add quereys to the attribute talble and how to look at the stats of the data.

delaware data

this post is to prove i did the delaware data exercise by documenting what the layers showed and what i thought of them.

1. this layer is every address in delaware

2. the annexations layer is showing what i am guessing are either parking lots oropen areas of land.

3.  i am guessing the archeological layer is showing different sites of digs in delaware?

4. the benchmarks layer is showing all of the benchmarks in delaware. before seeing this layer i only knew of the benchmark at the school along williams st.

5. the buildings outline layer is showing the outline of all buildings in delaware. pretty easy to identify even without the name of the layer.

6. the census block layer is showing all of delaware county and how big the voting and census area is.

7. the block group layer shows what the previous layer showed with less detail of roads and other features.

8. even less detail of census stuff.

9. the farm lots layer lookds like it is showing parcels, but they are apparently all farm fields.

10. shows the 100 yr flood plain for delaware.

11. shows the 500 yr floodplain which is not much bigger than the 100 yr.

12. shows the floodways of delaware. after googling floodways i found out it is an emergency diversion of water.

13. the historical layer shows all of the historical places in delaware in a local sense.

14. shows al of the historical places in delaware in a national sense.

15. the hydro layer shows all bodies of water in delaware.

16. the hydro detail layer shows only the delaware run.

17. the landmarks layer shows different points of interest that people might be interested in such as churches or schools.

18. the municipalities layer shows what i am guessing is land owned by the city.

19. the layer dealing with the ODNR is showing what is most likely nature preserves in delaware.

20. the ortho photo layers are just views of delaware from the sky.

21. the parcels layer shows all of the parcels in delaware.

22. i am guessin the precint layer is showing the different juristictions of delaware police?

23. the public land survey layer is showing how the land is broken up to be surveyed.

24. this layer obviously shows the railroads in delaware co.

25 and 26. the only difference between the right of way layer and the center of road layers is that the right of way layer has alleys on it.

27. the school districts layer shows all of the different school districts in delaware.

28. the soils layer shows where different types of soil are in delaware.

29. the subdivisions layer sows all the residential subdivisions of del.

30. the tax district layer shows which areas have to pay which taxes. this would help in deciding where to but a house when looking at schools because higher tax money helps schools.

31. the topography layer shows the elevation changes of delaware.

32. the townships layer shows that the townships are much larger the further away from the city they are.

33. the hist. twnshps layer shows what the twnshps were back in the day. much bigger.

34. i wold have had no idea what this layer was if there was no title. it shows the watersheds of delaware.

35. the wetlands layer shows that there are not huge areas in delaware that are swampy.

36. the woodland layer shows the areas that are designated wooded based on a specific density.

37. the zip code layer shows the boundaries between different zip codes in delaware.

38. zoning and historical district.

WOW

ArcGIS ch 11

a lot of chapter 11 did not match up with a lot of the descriptions in the book. after a few minutes of messing with things i figured everything out and all was good. another aspect shown was how to imprt a symbol to be used on a map from data.
